Ambro Sales was opened in 1978 by Keith Anderson and Angus Milne in a small rented warehouse in Knights Germiston. The total staff complement in those days was only 3.

A few years later Ambro Sales moved to its own 1000 square meter building in Germiston. This new building was soon outgrown and the Company moved to larger premises in Wadeville.

Ambro Sales was bought out by Hudaco (Pty) Ltd. In 2008. Ambro currently occupies a total of 10 200 square meters and employs over 60 people. On 1 April 2017, Ambro Sales rebranded and became Ambro Steel.
